Motivational Moments

Often when I watch television, I see more than just the show that I am watching. Yes, I am being entertained, empowered, or challenged by what I am seeing. But there is so much more to that. By watching television, I am seeing the challenges and resolutions through various means. By watching the commercials, I am seeing the companies trying to increase profits. By watching news, I am seeing information about things that are deemed "important". It's amazing what television can teach you and also, how it can influence you. However, the most important thing to note here is that it's just television. When I watch a home show in which an entire house was gutted and rebuilt in an hour... Well…It's just tv. When a man falls in love with a woman and they live happily ever after with no troubles…It's just tv. When a person is addicted to drugs during the first fifteen minutes of the show and they are now the executive of a top company by the end of the show, it's just tv. When a driver takes his/her's limited edition vehicle and jump the grand canyon, it's just tv. So here's the life empowered moment for today! Don't think for a moment successes are quick and easy. Put time, energy, and focus into the things that you really want. Just because we make it look easy, doesn't mean that it is.

It's funny how one can sit and watch all that is happening in the world and shake their head, provide commentary, and free judgement. It's interesting how when you are out on social media sites, you see all that the world has to offer, good and bad. What most interesting is that you are looking outward. You can see all that is in front of you. You see things above you - those things that you feel are way above your level. Also, you see things behind you - your regrets. The things that you wished you should have, would have, could have done. You look around and see it all. Except one thing, we often don't look inside. We don't look to see what we have in us to change the neighborhood, the community, the city. We forget that just one vote can change the course of an election, just one hug can change the day of a classroom full of students, one opportunity can change the financial status of a family, and one prayer can change the outlook of a grim situation. So, the motivational moment for this week is this… Look inside of you, and look for those things that will impact the world for the better and share them. It's in there. Sitting in a quiet space, actually being quiet. This is the best time to settle myself and my thoughts. I can sift through what I am thinking and feeling and dive into what destiny is yelling for me to move towards.
During this sitting and thinking time, I can hear not me, but HIM. I can hear Him softly drawing me closer to the vision and plans that He has laid out for me. At this very moment, I no longer have to look at what others are doing to motivate me to pursue my destiny, but I can just simply answer His call for my life. It's weird to know that throughout the day, the hustle and bustle of life's activities are loud, often times they seem as though they require our attention. But the truth is that it is often the squeaky wheel that gets the oil. Our attention often diverts to non-purpose driven activity, simply because it is noisy to us. We are challenged daily to climb our way through the churn of chaos and obstacles of adversity, to get to a quiet place. That place that one can be reminded of their purpose, and destiny. A place where there is calm, not calamity, and confidence, not indecision. Your Life Empowered Moment for today is this… Get in a quiet place and listen to HIM. Learn God's voice and obey it. Over the last several weeks, I have been watching the success and growth of others with much excitement and joy. I am just so proud of those that I have connected with. I am honored to be a part of a group of people both that are striving for excellence. It's both motivating and exhilarating. However, I can't help but wonder, am I really walking in my purpose? Am I really walking into my destiny? How will I know? Has anyone else questioned what they thought they were are were to do? I have to believe that I am not the only one. But what if I was? What if I was the only one that questioned their destiny and purpose? I am confident in saying that I am traditionally very secure in who I am and what I am doing, but for some reason, today I am not. Today I am not feeling as though I can conquer the world. I am not feeling as though success is in my hands. Today… I just don't feel it. Luckily, I have a foundation, a plan, and a path established so that on days like this.. I can just refer to the plan that has been laid out for me prior to the foundation of the world. This is my assurance. When I feel unsure, I rest in the word of God. I rest in what I know that God has given me concerning my purpose regardless to how I feel. While I am grateful for the ability to feel, I am overly joyed because of my confidence in knowing. My motivational thought is this.. When you can't rely on what you feel, trust what you know. What you know will be substantiated by the word of God. Romans 8:28… And we know… Over the last several weeks, I have heard and seen so many goals and aspirations for the new year. I am truly a believer of words and the power behind them, but there is nothing like connecting our activities together with our words. As we set our goals for this year, let's do a couple of things to ensure that we achieve the goals that we set. For example, write down your annual goal, then take that goal and break down quarterly activities that will help you accomplish your annual goal. Then take your quarterly goals, and break it down to monthly goals that will help you achieve that quarterly goal, then ultimately the annual goal. Then take that monthly goal and break it into weekly goals. - you get the point. Before you know it, you will have accomplished your goal. A few other things that will help you are as follows: 1) Set a specific amount of time aside. 2) Get an accountability partner -that will hold you accountable 3) Go for it. 4) Celebrate after each milestone with something small a treat to acknowledge your accomplishment. I was so honored to work and teach at an expo recently. I found it to be an exciting experience and it further taught me about me. As a result of this experience I wrote another book, simply because someone said that I hadn't self-published before. I invested more in my products, services, and ultimately in my dream. But what I realized is that my dream had changed. Or at least my approach to achieve my dream had changed. And I was good with it. I am grateful that over time, I have become a better listener. I am now less sensitive to those that I know have my best interest at heart. Additionally, I am not threatened by "competition" because there is none. I have also learned to network a more. I love to meet and greet people, but now I am learning how to maintain those relationships. Why am I sharing all of this… Well, because we often talk about learning from all of the negative things that can and will happen in life, but not the positive ones. So I just wanted to take a moment to say that you can learn from those too. So what is your Life Empowered Moment for this month? Learn for all of your experiences, they will make you better. I went to a second hand store the other day and as I was walking through the store, one of the employees comes out with what appears to be brand new lamp on it. I didn't even let her set the items out, I simply asked if I could take it right away to place in my cart.
Very pleased with my 6.99 find, I went home and sat the box in the room that it was going to go in. About a week later when I was ready to use the lamp, I went to open the box only to find several miscellaneous items. There was a blouse in there, a couple charger cords, some cat toys (I can't make this stuff up) and I don't know what else. However, what wasn't in there was a lamp. I just stopped and laughed at myself because I never actually checked the contents of the box. So I politely took the box back with my receipt and got my money back. So what is the life empowered moment here? It's simple, we have to remember that the outside may not always reflect what's on the inside. Check into the heart of people before you buy their stories, check their motives before you compromise yourself, learn their behaviors before you decide to really associate yourself with them. They very well can be a wolf in sheep’s clothing. A couple of weeks ago, I received an email from my sister and I smiled.. I then went on to say, I was supposed to be doing that. So a bit of disappointment in myself and guilt set in. Not that she wasn't supposed to do it, but I knew that I was as well. So I just kept talking about it, sharing with my husband how proud I am of her and that she is doing great things. I would then go on to say that I was supposed to be doing it. And then he said to me, "What do you mean you're not doing it? You are doing it…" Then he began to show me the thing that I thought I wasn't doing, that I actually was doing. I was immediately shocked and pleased at the same time. Why am I sharing this with you? I am glad that you asked. Just being you changes lives, that is if you are being you. Sometimes we think that it has to be a huge production but it doesn't have to be. It just has to be you loving or supporting or cheering someone on, in the way that you do it. So I do, I encourage you during this moment. Just be the best you that you can be! I am humbled and grateful to be given the opportunities that I have received. I have been afforded opportunities to speak in forums that have given me great visibility as well as access to great people. With these opportunities, I have to continue to be mindful of the responsibilities that go along with it. When I am speaking, teaching, or sharing. I am representing, my God, my family, my friends, my company, and even more so me. So when I am given these opportunities, I ask myself the following questions:
So the motivational moment for today… Represent you well. Be sure that at the end of the day, you are pleased with how you have represented yourself and if you are not, then do something different. I am excited to see all of the great things that my sisters and brothers are doing. My prayer for them is that they are being fulfilled by the activities that they are actively pursuing. My prayer for them is that they are also doing what it is that God has called, anointed, and challenged them to do. With that said, I had to ask myself, "Self, are you doing all that God has called, anointed, and challenged you to do?" It is such as hard question when you push it back on yourself. But from this internal challenge, God reminded me of double standards. We often set expectations on others that we are not fulfilling. Not only that, but we are often so focused on their success or failure that we don't even realize that we to have a challenge, or a charge that we too will have to give an account for. So now, as I am praying and cheering my sisters and brothers on, I am also leveraging them as motivation to make sure that I too, am walking into my destiny. Thank you family and friends for taking the challenge to be what you are called to do as you have motivated me to do the same. |
