Growing up, I really didn't get into a bunch of different things that would get me in too much trouble. I often thought of myself as a pretty good girl, but I just had a few things I needed to improve upon. I really didn't operate in malice or hatred, but I was just a little disobedient from time to time.
But if we are honest with ourselves, our slight disobedience is just as bad as complete disobedience. Because either way there is recourse, reroute, or an adjustment that needs to be made to compensate our misdeed to bring us back on track. Well, while I am grateful for being back on track, what is most interesting is while I know that I have been changed, and that those things that would get me off of course is no longer a challenge, for some reason, I have opted to go back to some of those old ways were distractions to me. I went back and tried to do those things that clearly had no value for me or my destiny, but it wasn't until I went through some serious contemplation that I realized that I had been changed. My focus was now different and my priorities were in a different order. I had been changed. The thing about change is that it not just from other people’s perspective, but it's from yours too. You have to look at yourself internally and see the changes, see the shifts, and see the levels that you have moved into and celebrate it. Don't stay there and don't go back. But celebrate and embrace your change. Allow it to move you closer to your destiny. So what is today's life empowered moment? Look at where you have come from and celebrate it. Continue to move forward into your destiny. Embrace the Change!

Over the last several weeks, I have been doing a self evaluation. I began this self-assessment in an effort to identify areas in which I need to improve. This activity is certainly a difficult one, as it forces me to be honest and transparent with myself. But here's the thing... Well two really... 1) Once I have identified my flaws, I have to decide if I want to do something about it. The quirkiness of me is what makes me who I am. So I don't know that I want to be completely disconnected from my flaws. And 2) While, I know that there are things that I need to work on, my opinion is that there will always be, so why not spend my time crafting and improving on the things that I am good at. There's a book called “Now Go Put Your Strengths to Work”. The premise of the book is to help one identify what he/she is good at and then focus on the attributes of who we are rather than the flaws. So I challenge you today! Understand your strengths, celebrate them, and focus on them. Understanding and using your strengths is how you can best live a life empowered! I recently had the opportunity to go to a live taping of my uncle's (Steve Harvey) show. After the show he stayed out and just talked to the studio audience. During this time, he shared many things with us. He shared that he was where he was because of God. He shared that when people tell him that he really got himself together, that he corrects them and says that it was not him but God. He went on to say that when we get down, we don't have to stay down as God doesn't hold us down. And this is where I really began to feel encouraged. While things weren't wrong in my life, but my priorities shifted, so keeping connected with you was a priority in word but not reflected in deed. So I am happy to say that I didn't stay down. I know it has been a while, but I didn't stay down. Your life empowered moment for today is this! Don't stay down. If I can get up, surly you can. Day in and Day out, I am learning how precious life is. When I look at all of those that have passed on, as well as those3 (including myself) who are getting older every day, I recognize the speed in which life passes by.
As a aging woman, I am learning and understanding that what was 20 years ago is not what is. For that matter, what will be in 20 years also is not what is. Life is changing and we are aging. I heard someone a very long time ago say that once we are born, we are closer to death than to life. Now, I know that this seems like a morbid moment, but I challenge you to see the spirit behind it. This life empowered moment, truly isn't about death, but about life. It is important, critical that we live it. We must live life in such a way that at the end of every day, we are pleased with our accomplishments. Granted some days the major accomplishments will be to do absolutely nothing, but that's ok.. just as long as it isn't all days. So to say it a little differently, today's Life Empowered Moment is this... Live each day like your life depended on it. Sometimes when life hits us with unexpected situations, we often feel as though we have to stop and start over. We believe that because of this obstacle, we have to get away, move out of the state, leave our marriages, quit our jobs, and just start over. Usually the thought process is that if we can just start over we will be ok. Well, the challenge with that thought process is that if we just start over, then we will be duplicating the effort that it took us to get right back where we left off at in order to move forward. My proposal to you today is that you don't start over. Simply stop and take a breath. Do not move from your path; do not go back to the start line, just stop for a second. Re calibrate yourself and your goals, realign you with your vision and your reality, just take a breath and clear your head. Upon completing that task, then figure out where you want to go and what you want to do. In that discovery, if you determine that you are not on the correct path, cross over. Don't go back to the start, cross over and keep moving. The accomplishments that you have achieved so far will transfer over if needed. Don't worry about that. So your life empowered moment for today is... Take a breath, and keep moving, in any direction except backwards. A few weeks back, I watched the Gabby Douglas story. In the story, it talked about how her passion for gymnastics began at a very young age. She was so passionate that she moved with a host family so that she could further pursue her passion. However, after being there awhile, she had begun to miss her family. As she struggled with homesickness, her passion began to diminish. So much so that she had even discussed with her mom and coach about quitting the team.
However, something happened - she was reminded. She was reminded that while she was the one on the balance beam, her family, her friends, and her supporters were right there with her. She was reminded of her commitment. And what was the result? Well, you know how the story ends. So what is the Life Empowered moment for today? Allow your passion and your commitment work together. These two characteristics bring about balance and success. They compensate for each other when one is lacking. Think about what you are passionate about and put your commitment with it and watch the birth of greatness. You can do it! Live Life Empowered! Sometimes we truly want to move forward, but we don't know how. We want to do things differently, but we struggle with the steps that have to take place in order for that to happen. So here it is. These are eight tangibles items that you can apply daily, almost like a check list to ensure that you move forward and that your goals are accomplished.
1) Control your own life, don’t allow others to 2) Embrace past failures as stepping stones to success 3) Make decisions about what you want 4) Actively pursue the goals that matter to you 5) Resolve issues in a timely fashion 6) Always look to learn from others 7) Celebrate the positive points in your life 8) Appreciate the place that you are in today So what is the Life Empowered Moment? It's simple ... Move Forward. I recently saw a very small piece of the movie, the “Odd Life of Timothy Green". I was heading out of the house and the clip that I saw was one in which Timothy was attempting to play soccer. He was doing a terrible, terrible job. In this scene he attempted to kick the ball into the goal and missed. But what was odd is that after the failed attempt, he had the biggest, happiest smile on his face. The coach looked at him and asked him why he had this huge smile. Timothy simply responded with, "I can only get better from here." I wanted to share this because we have to be optimistic in our life, even when everything is going wrong. We have to speak positivity into the atmosphere and into our lives. Our words have so much power. Not only in what we say to others but in what we say to ourselves. Sometimes we convince ourselves that we are incapable or unworthy although we are. We have to choose and use our words carefully. Today's life empowered moment is this. Expect good things, speak good things, and believe good things. Even in the worst of situations look for the silver lining. It's there. I challenge you to do this in your life and in the life of others. Go ahead and do it! Live a Life Empowered! Often when I look around outside of my work building, I see cars, trees, large manufacturing buildings, and lots of cement. Cement streets, cement roads, and cement parking structures...you get my point. So
here I am in the middle of the city and what do I see walking across the parking lot? Turkeys. I glance out the window and there are some turkeys walking in between cars across the parking lot. I am observing how they are confidently and comfortably maneuvering around the stamped concrete, wandering casually to their destination, where ever that may be. As they are preparing to cross the street, I would imagine that they have no idea how much danger they are in but I also begin to think…. What would it be like to navigate in life surrounded by friends and family who are also looking to progressively move? Wouldn't that be awesome? I would bet that the fears of failure and defeat would diminish just because you know you are not alone. Today's life empowered moment, learn from the turkeys…. look at your circle, and see where they are. Determine if they are moving forward with you or holding you back. Make a decision and make the necessary changes. |
